Position: Principal Civil Engineer
Location: Libertyville, IL
Salary: $76,688 - $105,000
Summary: Perform complex engineering tasks in the field and complex engineering design review in the office related to stormwater management and soil erosion and sediment control. Additional responsibilities include performing work of considerable difficulty for a variety of engineering and stormwater related assignments including flood mitigation, drainage-problem investigation and resolution, green infrastructure best management practices, surface water quality, and coordination with local agencies and public partners on stormwater strategies.
Becoming a Principal Civil Engineer would allow you to be involved with Planning, Building & Development within local government, ranging from design review in the office and field based professional engineering work, and soil erosion and sediment control best management practices. Your day will consist of site development plan review and inspections, flood mitigation project coordination with the local townships and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC), coordination with the public and homeowner associations on drainage problem analysis and review, and floodplain/water resources management. You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep you interested and continuously learning.
In order to be successful in this role you should have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field and at least 4 years of experience. Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license from the State of Illinois or equivalent is required. Registration as a Certified Floodplain Manager and/or Certified Professional Erosion and Sediment Control is preferred, and a valid driver's license is required. Individuals should have a strong knowledge of the concepts of professional engineering and soil erosion and sediment control practices; possess the ability to effectively problem solve; collaborate in a team atmosphere and work individually; and conduct tasks in both field and office environments.
