Webinar Series - Dr. Julie Nucci – Registration

Following her outstanding and highly rated plenary presentation at the 2024 IAFSM Conference, Dr. Julie Nucci, will lead a new two-part webinar series designed to help engineers and other STEM professionals communicate more clearly, confidently, and effectively.

We encourage members and colleagues to join us for this engaging and practical series.

Webinar 2: February 10, 12:00–1:30 pm

Save the Audience, Save Yourself: The Science of Better Conference Presentations

This session focuses on building effective presentations and slide decks. Dr. Nucci will cover strategies for structuring your talk, designing supportive visuals, and delivering your message with confidence.

Key Takeaways:

  • You(!) not the slides, are the presentation

  • Thoughtful preparation matters; great talks are built, not improvised

  • Use design choices that reinforce, rather than compete with, your message

Pricing:

Single Webinar Price:

  • Government/Non-Profit: $30

  • Consultants: $60

Two-Webinar Bundle (Discounted):

  • Government: $50 (instead of $60)

  • Consultants: $100 (instead of $120)

2HDM - A (Registration Closed)

Foundational training in Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling of Rivers at Highway Encroachments (2DHM)

This virtual, advanced follow-on course builds upon the foundational training in Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling of Rivers at Highway Encroachments (2DHM). Designed for professionals working with hydraulic modeling, the course focuses on the SRH-2D modeling system and its associated data files, diagnostics, and verification techniques. Limited spots available.

  • Dates: January 26 - January 28, 2026.
  • Time: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain familiarity with SRH-2D input files, SRH-Pre generated files, and SRH-2D output files.
  • Understand the purpose and format of different file types.
  • Learn to interpret diagnostic messages within the Surface-water Modeling System (SMS), developed by Aquaveo.
  • Explore the use of monitor lines in SRH-2D and apply their outputs to verify model convergence.

Course Delivery

  • Format: Three live Zoom sessions, supported by two independent, hands-on exercises.
  • Schedule: Typically offered over three consecutive days (Tuesday–Thursday), with three hours of instruction per day. Alternative scheduling is available upon request.
  • Structure:

Session 1: Introduction, Data Flow in SRH-2D, Output Files, and Diagnostics

Session 2: Monitor Lines and Continuity

 Session 3: Summary and Review

Course Materials

  • Comprehensive training manual
  • Independent study exercise data files
  • Two hands-on assignments completed between sessions to reinforce learning

Duration

  • Three days, three hours per day (standard work week format)
  • Independent exercises assigned after Session 1 and Session 2
This course equips participants with the practical skills needed to confidently manage SRH-2D model data, interpret diagnostics, and verify model results using SMS tools. It is ideal for engineers and practitioners seeking to deepen their expertise in two-dimensional hydraulic modeling workflows.

2HDM - B (Registration Closed)

Foundational Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling of Rivers at Highway Encroachments (2DHM) training. It is designed to provide participants with the skills needed to process and apply LiDAR and other elevation data formats in defining terrain geometry for two-dimensional hydraulic models.

Using the Surface-water Modeling System (SMS), a graphical pre- and post-processor developed by Aquaveo, participants will learn to identify and address potential issues in elevation data, modify geometry for simulations, and integrate terrain information into hydraulic modeling workflows. The course also covers importing data from multiple sources, merging datasets, and exporting terrain in formats compatible with widely used GIS and CAD software. Limited spots available.

  • Dates: February 2 - February 4, 2026
  • Times: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how to process LiDAR and other elevation data formats for SRH-2D models
  • Identify and resolve common issues in terrain datasets
  • Modify and refine geometry for hydraulic simulations
  • Import, merge, and export terrain data across SMS, GIS, and CAD platforms
  • Incorporate terrain into model meshes for accurate hydraulic analysis

Course Structure

  • Delivery: Three live Zoom sessions supported by two independent, hands-on exercises
  • Sessions:

Session 1: Introduction, Topographic Data, Bathymetric Data, and Channel Creation

Session 2: Combining and Exporting Data, Incorporating Terrain into a Mesh

Session 3: Summary and Review

Materials: Comprehensive training manual and exercise data files provided

Schedule

  • Standard format: Three consecutive days, three hours per day (suggested Tuesday–Thursday)
  • Independent exercises assigned after Session 1 and Session 2
  • Alternate scheduling available upon request, though the course is not intended for extended delivery

This course is ideal for engineers and practitioners seeking practical expertise in terrain development for SRH-2D modeling, ensuring accurate and reliable hydraulic simulations.
