The Illinois Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (IAFSM) is pleased to announce FEMA's L273: Managing Floodplain Development Through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training course.
This intensive four-day course is designed to prepare community officials to understand and fulfill the roles and responsibilities of a local Floodplain Administrator. Participants will gain valuable knowledge of:
- The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
- Floodplain management principles and practices
- Flood maps and flood studies
- Floodplain ordinance administration
- The relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance
Attendance for all four days is required. Space is limited, and registration will close once capacity is reached.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to attend all four days?
Yes. Participants must attend the entire course. Class sessions run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.
Is there a registration fee?
No. There is no cost to attend the course. However, participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and meal expenses.

Important Registration Tip:
When completing the online application, you may be prompted to enter your supervisor's name and email address. Although the form requests supervisor information, applicants should enter Michelle Staff's name and email address as directed in the registration instructions.
Michelle serves as the designated approver within the FEMA registration system. Entering your actual supervisor's information may prevent your application from being routed correctly for approval and could delay or prevent successful registration.
What is the registration deadline?
Enrollment is limited to 30 participants. Registration will remain open until all seats have been filled. Early registration is strongly encouraged.
