Drainage Engineer | SE3

Position involves working drainage engineering projects from design through construction and necessitates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate as part of a team.  Depending on the respective assignment the role may require either being one of the delivery team or perhaps operate in a lead capacity.

Most projects are presently located in the Chicago or the contiguous Chicagoland area.  Engagements have recently also been located in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, TX, and Kansas City.  Travel is not extensive but one needs to be able to go to job sites as projects require.

  • Strong background in transportation drainage design, detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater management and permitting
  • Familiarity working with government entities
  • Ability to lead all drainage design activity concerning expansive transportation projects for a range of public and private clients
  • Experience preparing technical reports, plans, designs, cost estimates and relevant calculations
  • A strong sense of critical thinking and advanced problem analysis and decision-making skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with the ability to technically translate engineering information to less technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of the typical Department of Transportation and/or other relevant and associated government agencies and their standards, procedures and processes
  • General civil engineering experience and technical knowledge
  • Minimum of three (3) years hands on experience in drainage engineering and associated projects
  • A PE license of the ability to obtain one is preferred
  • Proficiency with common drainage design software i.e.:  HEC-RAS, HY-8 and SWMM or comparable applications
  • Experience with MicroStation, GEOPAK and Civil 3D is valuable
  • Site development experience is preferred but not necessarily required
  • BS in Civil Engineering or other relevant curriculum
